LA A Proposed Ballot Measure Revise Homeless Tax

Los Angeles County is looking to replace the current quarter-cent sales tax for homelessness-prevention measures with an indefinite half-cent sales tax for the same purpose. Over 410,000 petition signatures, well above the required 238,922, have been submitted by supporters of the measure. The next step is for the Board of Supervisors to consider the issue, deciding whether to place the initiative on the November ballot or to enact the measure without a public vote. If the proposed ballot measure is approved, it would repeal Measure H, a 2017 quarter-cent sales tax, and replace it with a half-cent sales tax to create a dedicated revenue stream to address homelessness. Measure H, originally set to expire in 2027, had a 10-year lifespan. It is anticipated that the matter will progress toward a November vote.
